Crystal Wash - Laundry Without Soap + Giveaway

I do a lot of laundry.  When I say a lot, I'm talking 11 people PLUS cloth diapers for 2.  That's about 2 to 3 loads a day.  We go through a lot of laundry soap.  There's just no avoiding it.  Until now.  I was able to try this thing called Crystal Wash.

I'm a skeptic when it comes to not using laundry soap.  I have stinky people clothes and icky diapers I wash.  Have you ever tried washing clothes or cloth diapers without soap?  It doesn't come out smelling very clean.

I actually started by cleaning my washing machine. I filled it with hot water, added 1 quart of bleach, let it sit for an hour, then ran it through a full wash cycle (empty).  Then did it again, but with distiller white vinegar instead of bleach.  Then wiped it all down and even took the fabric softener agitator apart and cleaned it (even though I never use fabric softener it was gross).

Then I tried my Crystal Wash balls.

These are an amazing washing creation.  I was pretty sure my clothes were going to come out smelling... well... Unclean.  I actually started with a load of diapers.  Yes.  We're starting off playing hard ball!  I did my normal routine of two full wash cycles.  The only difference is I dropped the Crystal Wash balls into the load instead of soap.  When it was done, I did the sniff test.  My diapers actually smelled like nothing!  No smell!  This is amazing to me!

I've done several loads of towels, adult laundry and children's laundry.  The kid laundry that has wet underpants from accidents.  It all comes out smelling of nothing!  Then, after 2 to 3 weeks you just set the balls in the sun to recharge the crystals.  I do mine weekly because of the amount of wash loads I do.

I'll admit, I was proven wrong.  I was pretty sure that this wasn't going to work.  You DO still need to pretreat for stains.  So, keep something on hand for those grease, food, grass, or whatever spots.  My diapers still need the sun bleaching for the stains.  However, with the Crystal Wash balls lasting up to 1000 wash loads, I'll not have the extra soap expense.

How does Crystal Wash work?  Here is what they say:

"Background on Crystal Wash

Crystal Wash is a proven technology that literately lasts for at least 1000 loads of laundry.  It uses the power of Bio Ceramics from the earth, which naturally clean your clothes as effectively as laundry detergent.  It is better for your skin and more gentle on your fabrics.  It is also better for the environment because it reduces contaminated waste water filtered back into the water supply, saves water by lowering required rinse cycles, and effectively reduces CO2 production by requiring less energy than a traditional detergent based wash.

These special Bio Ceramics were developed using various minerals with very effective antibacterial and anti-oxidant properties.

The pH level of laundry water impacts the wash greatly. If the water is overly acidic or alkaline it can damage delicate clothes and fabrics, cause colors to fade and cause clothing to still seem dirty even after washing.  Most detergents on the market are a pH level of 6.5 – 9, but they use chemicals to achieve these levels.

As the Bio Ceramics collect odors, dirt and waste from your laundry, they need to be ‘recharged’ in order to make sure the pH levels are staying at 8.5 or greater.  To recharge Crystal Wash you simply put them in the sun for an afternoon.  You only need to do this approximately every 30 days (or 30 laundry loads).  There is nothing else you need to do… Just a little sun and they will be just as effective as their first wash.   Lets face it, this process is simple but easily forgotten and if not done the effectiveness of Crystal Wash is decreased.  It would be nice, if there was a way to be reminded that it was time to recharge them."
